Network DVD celebrates one of Britain's best loved stars, the actress, dancer and singer Jessie Matthews, with the release in May of two classic comedies.
Matthews brings all of her charm, humour and energy to the role of Annette in the delightful Michael Balcom-produced Gainsbourgh comedy THERE GOES THE BRIDE from 1932. On the morning of an unwanted marriage, the bride, Annette, runs away to Paris. On the train she is robbed and all her money is stolen - but as fortune would have it, she meets a wealthy passenger, Max, who allows her to stay with him for 24 hours. Detectives trace and catch up with the reluctant bride and take her home. But hot on their heels is Max, who’s determined to have Annette as his bride instead…
The charming musical comedy EVERGREEN stars Matthews in both roles as Harriet Green and her daughter, Harriet Hawkes, alongside her husband Sonnie Hale and silent-screen star Betty Balfour (known as ‘the British Mary Pickford’). The film features music by Rogers and Hart and outstanding choreography by Buddy Bradley and was a hit on both sides of the Atlantic.
